Highland Park
Scotland
Single Malt
A great introduction to Highland Park's famed heathery peat smoke, the 12 Year Old is matured predominantly in sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, so it's spicy, citrusy, and full of smoky aromatics. This is part of the Orcadian distillery's impressive core range, which was treated to a smart new look in 2024.
Fresh, clean and very aromatic. Floral notes abound the senses with a light grassiness. Notes of creamy Manuka honey and a touch of juicy citrus with cream and a well-balanced sweetness.
Rather full with a pleasant depth. Lurking somewhere in the substratum a grilled orange lies. Notes of granary toast and green tea with jasmine. A touch of sweetness.
Quite long with peppery spice and wood shavings.

Nicely peated, just right for my tasting. Good price also
HP 12 is added to the company of Aberlour 12 and Macallan 12, completing the triad of disappointments. Smooth and tasty, but also watery and inoffensive, kind of like studying to just to get a pass or a credit. Slightly floral malt with vague echos of peat. It is not bad, but it won't do anything for you. The extra half of * is for presentation.
I like Highland Park 12, but it is a bit less refined. At £40 a bottle I couldn't justify it, however I think it's a nice flavourful Scotch and a beautiful bottle. Nose: Raisins and sweetness. Taste: Hints of smoke, peat and heather. Just a touch too alcoholic for me, it doesn't feel as refined. Perhaps further distilling is what I'm after. It's a good "manly" drink. A proper scotch, and a good bottle to look cool in front of friends, but I'd need this to be £28-£33 to buy again.
This is a solid dram for those who like some sweetness and a wisp of smoke. Balanced, peppery, sweet, vanilla, spice, great in a Godfather cocktail. But like a little brother to the more bold flavors and profile of Talisker or any of the primary players from Islay if you like a more rich or smoky experience and not as sweet as Laphroaig.
Good, not great. Sweet honey & raisins with teases of smoky notes that try but are kept in the background, leaving one wondering if it was just one's imagination. Worth a go, but if you've got the $, grab the premium HP18 or even the Oban 14 or even an established favorite Islay malt like Lagavulin 16 & enjoy much more character. I like it well enough, but don't love it enough to buy another.
