Highland Park
Scotland
Single Malt
The stupendous first bottling in Highland Park's Valhalla Collection, showcasing Orkney's Scandinavian connections. This first edition was made in honour of Thor, the Norse God of Thunder and supposed creator of the Cliffs of Yesnaby on Orkney's west coast. A staggeringly good cask strength 16 year old malt, packaged in a frame inspired by a viking long ship!
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Big, bold notes of stem ginger, smoke, antique shops, calves leather, malt, cigars (both unlit and smoking) prune juice, treacle and raisin sweetness.
Tangy, rich and full, it envelopes the palate in notes of tropical fruits (mango, guava), as well as nectarine in syrup, nutmeg, dried ginger, blackcurrant and custard. A plume of coastal air with thick woodsmoke develops. A little salty butter.
Powerful and muscular finish, ginger, nutmeg, cocoa and espresso on the tail.
Пълна лудост!?
I received a bottle of Thor for Christmas from family in and I'm sipping it right now after work with negative degrees and snow outside. Perfect. It's golden orange in glass - the tasting notes from MM are spot on, the oak is chewy and feels all around. Nose is smoky antique shop with that ginger... raisins... The taste has more cigarette notes to it with years but there's still layers and layers of tropical fruit and sweet things, then the salty butter finish and fruity espresso tail. I've had this bottle for many years (in contrast to my years tasting) and I've had many impressive drams, and this is one of the most characteristic whiskies around. Loved it.
70 birthday present great bottle of scotch
I have tried a sip of Thor. It is certainly the best sip of Scotch that I have ever had. I ended up buying a bottle of it to celebrate my 65th birthday, which is next July. I am trying to find a distributor in the U.S. from whom I can get bottles from the rest of the series. Can you help? Larry
