From the Hakushu distillery in the foothills of Mount Kaikomagatake comes their Distiller's Reserve single malt whisky, a no-age-statement expression, that captures the smoky, herbaceous characteristics of their whiskies. Both lightly-peated and heavily-peated malts were used for this complex and deeply enjoyable whisky from Suntory.
The herbs are very up front with this one. Peppermint, pine and pleasant grassy notes. Cucumber and melon round out the nose.
All the notes on the nose swim effortlessly through the palate, the mint developing sweeter notes as it goes on. Citrus zest also pops in to say hello.
A waft of smoke appears during the long finish.
This shall make a fantastic Highball. Oh yes it shall.
NOSE As if on a rainy day we were walking around on a carpet of moss in a dense pine forest, with ferns and heather with a running stream in the background where we suddenly found a fruit stall with yellow peaches, pears and honeydew melon. TASTE A light peat combined with moist forest floor, bamboo, grass, but more warm than bitter and a pinch of anise and tarragon. FINISH A long aftertaste, where the peat comes out more with intense notes of green tea. Very tasty, you get hungry to make this forest walk again after every sip.
Loved it. We're on our 2nd bottle, complete fan.
Yep Apple, floral notes and thin. Made in a forest in Japan and expensive, I have tried to like it, but lacks age, quality and value. Nice label and box.
Although the bottle was not for myself I had chance to try it as it was opened it's pleasantly stronger and deeper in taste and mouthfeel compared to the suntory Toki more of an emphasis on barrel spice but still maintaining the floral notes. Beautiful bottle and I will be getting myself a bottle when it is back in stock
