The much anticipated David Beckham endorsed single grain whisky, produced at Cameronbridge distillery. A combination of first-fill, rejuvenated and refill bourbon barrel-matured whiskies are used and Beckham, along with Simon Fuller, is very much involved in the development of the Haig Club brand.
The Haig dynasty meanwhile is the stuff of legend, with Robert Haig getting himself into trouble for distilling on the sabbath back in 1655! Cameronbridge was founded by John Haig in 1824, and a continuous still designed by Robert Stein (who was John's uncle) was soon installed at the site for the production of grain whisky, predating Aeneas Coffey's famous patent for his own version of the continuous still by a handful of years.
The grain whisky produced at Cameronbridge would naturally become integral to the well-loved Haig blended whiskies and now the Haig brand has been reinvented for a new generation and new markets. It may seem like a scary new world to some, but grain whisky is on the march, and Haig Club is at the very forefront.
It doesn't jump out at you, granted, but there's more here than meets the eye (/nose). Apple crumble, expressed lemon peel and a touch of mango. Millionaire's shortbread, banoffee pie, coconut milk, dried grass, orange Turkish delight and cardamom.
Toffee and vanilla with pleasant supporting oak notes. Fresh banana (neither overpowering nor artificial), a hint of nougat and honeycomb pieces.
Praline, cinnamon and a little ginger with perhaps a hint of cardamom returning right at the death.
Approachable, adaptable, good mouthfeel (I chucked some ice in afterwards and the texture was great). A hugely accessible whisky with tasty spice, toffee and, with the ice now, increasingly some tropical fruit notes too.

I purchased the bottle of Haig club single grain whisky from ASDA for £15. At first I didn't understand why the reviews were so bad because as a cheap single malt goes, it's by far at the top of my list. However I would not pay £40 for a bottle based on the flavour. I do not consider myself a whisky connoisseur however I definitely noticed a keen difference between a 21 year single malt Glenfiddich Havana Reserve, and a blended malt famous grouse (which was my regular drink at about £15 for 1l). While clubman only sell 700ml for £15, it tastes like a single malt worth a deal lot more than that. Due to the low price and the fantastic flavour (for the price), I would definitely rate this 5 stars. However if I'd payed £40 I would completely understand the 2 star rating. From me, 10/10
What a load of cobblers. No the whisky, the crass comments on here. I've been a whiskey drinker for 60 years, neat, the only thing to add to whiskey is another shot. It might not be to a whisky snobs taste but this is good stuff. Light, a little sweet but easy to drink and I would put it up against loads of single malts I've tasted over the years. Give it a go, forget the Beckham endorsement and enjoy.
Firstly if you love whisky straight with a little water from the pipet then you my friend will more than likely not be afan. However if you like a drink. Be it whisky, vodka or even rum and you enjoy them with a dash of coke then this is a superb drink. It's like the offspring of a single malt father and a fine vodka mother Smooth and subtle. It's not meant to be enjoyed in a smoky room full of ponsy men who enjoy £350 a nip drinks. It's a buddy drink. It's a happy go lucky tipple that'll keep your head straight. It's a drink that deserves cola and a slice of lime much like mount gay, angostura and mamont and dare I say it glenmorangie. Sorry folks I kill that with cola too Slightly expensive I'll give it that but a drink I'll enjoy again and again.
Wanted to like this because I thought people hated it because David Beckham was involved. Unfortunately it really just tastes like watered down alcohol. Too bad.
I enjoy most whiskeys, be they from Scotland, Ireland or Japan! Blended or single malt I enjoy them all, neat over ice! However then I encountered this one, lovely presented in a blue bottle, on offer at £15, that's great value, is it not? Sorry but this was awful, I can not compare this to anything I have drunk before. Terrible!
