A blended whisky from William Grant & Sons, finished in oloroso sherry casks. Lovely balance.
The nose is quite light and fruity. There are notes of nut oils and mixed peels, hints of honey and a little oaken note. The palate is of medium-body and quite well-balanced. There are notes of sherried peels and sultanas, winter fruitcake with spice and developing oak. The finish is nutty and long with dried fruit notes.
Which of all the types of sherry did those barrels have?
Grant's Sherry Cask Finish sold locally for around Can$26.00 and was my favourite budget blend for many years. I was sorry to see it disappear from the shelves of BC liquor stores about a year ago. I was very pleased when it reappeared under a new label, but wasn't happy to see that price had shot up to Cdn$45.00. I decided to take the plunge and a picked up a bottle of Grant's Sherry Cask 8 yr old. I still had a part bottle of the older version, so I was able to compare the two side-by-side. The new version is much smoother and more rounded, sweet and spicy, with less alcohol bite and a beguiling hint of smoke in the finish. I'm also happy to report that it's still my favourite blended Scotch!
An excellent whiskey at this price point but like those comments from Ontario, they have delisted here in BC at government Liquor stores. Why, I have to wonder? I do see a Grants product that seems strangely familiar, 8YO Sherry Cask with a new label with another 12 bucks or so added to the price. Hmmm, seems fishy to me.
Love this SHERRY cask edition, please ship again to ONTARIO
i happened on this whisky by accident... was in the liquor store looking for a whisky and there was the grant's sherry cask complete with free glass... how aprop0... however... much to my surprise i was completely smitten by this whisky (as an affordable every day drinking whisky)... it has been my go to whisky for about 7 years now... it is just truly enjoyable... at least it was until the damned lcbo decided to delist it.... now it is no longer available.... damn!
