Glentauchers 12yo 2009

A single malt so delicious that we got our hands on the whole cask and bottled it up! Distilled at Glentauchers in 2009, this expression spent the next 12 years maturing in a single cask, until it was independently bottled by yours truly in 2022. A release of 323 bottles, each one of them like beloved children to us, but we know they'll be in good hands.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Soft, doughy bread, delicate white flowers, and zingy quince open the way, before milky tea, white chocolate, and yoghurt-coated raisins arrive. Crisp white fruit, and sugared Rice Krispies.

Palate So soft! So creamy! Mouthcoating layers of Caramac bars, chantilly cream, tonka, vanilla, and coconut easily tame a single spike of peppery malt at the core.

Finish That spicy warmth stays on the horizon, kept at bay by a cushion of creamy barley, with freshly baked madeleines and vanilla clotted cream.

Reviews for Glentauchers 12 Year Old 2009 Single Cask (Master of Malt)
One of my favourites
I was reluctant to review this until I saw it was sold out. I think this is delicious.
No-one should trust my opinion, but I find that of all my recent purchases I am drawn to this for my first dram of the weekend. I am a whisky newbie, but this is right in my sweet spot.

For me it has a lovely nose; very delicate, sweet with notes of marshmallow, malt, roasted grain, dried and candied fruit. With hints of tobacco, icing sugar and light herbs, like geranium, thyme, dill and ginger.

It has a very sudden arrival on the palate: citrus, lemon, acid, sweet. Maybe a little rough, and it can take a few teaspoons of water for a double. It has a lovely oily mouthfeel. A bit like limoncello. Hints of honey, banana and orange rind. Quite complex. It has a lot of woody spice, that leaves the tongue tingling after every sip. A melony, salty finish.

I love it. I bought a second bottle almost immediately after buying my first. I'll save that.

Worth rep9
My wife and I found it pleasant to drink neat but it improved when water was added. I will be repeating this purchase.

Banging buy
Really enjoyed this. Great purchase didn't get the doughy bread but definitely the caramac. A good winter warmer well worth the money.

Smooth enjoyable dram , try it
Bought this as a rarer bottle to share with a friend who has an extensive whisky collection.
Personally I’m not a big whisky drinker but I do like to try stuff and enjoy the whole experience.
This is a very nice surprisingly smooth whisky at 62.8%, but I felt it benefitted from a few drops of water to open it up.
On the nose definitely like being in a bakers, bread or dough and for me a bit fruity too and sweet like caramel.
On my palette soft and smooth , sweet but also a bit peppery.
We both really enjoyed a few drams and thought it was a wee bit different but really pleasant to drink.
We didn’t compare it against anything else just drank it to try something new and enjoy it as something different and I have to say we thought it was well worth the punt.
