The Whisky Maker's Cut expression from Glenrothes' Soleo Collection is completely matured in first-fill sherry seasoned casks, resulting in punchy notes of orange, cinnamon and dried fruit. The whole range is named after the process of sun-drying grapes in preparation for sherry production, hence the particularly heavy focus on sherry throughout the series.
Orange oil and blackberry jam, with drying oak in the background.
Juicy sherry, crunchy brown sugar, a touch of boozy red wine, macadamia nuts.
Sweet with chocolate and dried fruit.
Loved it, went in with no expectations and a little question mark over the lack of age, but was really happy. Nice depth of flavour & smooth as a … well, something smooth! As good as the 15/18 year olds in the cabinet that cost more, Glenrothes = win
Really excellent value, I loved it!
When a whisky maker asks "What do we have left in inventory?" and they answer "Not much and it's young." He then tells them "What ever, just dump everything in a first fill sherry oloroso cask." They then say "Can we get away with this?" to witch he answers " Don't worry, reviewers will talk about fruits."
Had a taster as part of my drinks by the dram membership..... Excellent nose and a powerful complex but smooth finish, 7/10. I don’t get why there is no age statement. But once could guess it’s around 15, as price it is positioned between the 12 YO and the 18 YO. Good whisky. Good value for money.
It's a wonderful dram for the price point. Why so much for a NAS? First-fill casks are expensive and yield a lot of flavour. A very welcome addition to the range, but if you don't like sherry casks then this is not for you.
