Glenrothes 25 Year Old (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)
This single malt from Glenrothes spent a quarter of a century quietly maturing in a single hogshead, which found its way to the fine folk at That Boutique-y Whisky Company. The whisky was bottled up to coincide with its End of the World series, which works well seeing as the Boutique-y Glenrothes bottlings already feature a spooky haunted graveyard on the label. This one has the Grim Reaper lurking too, for extra spook factor.
Batch 14 is a release of 395 bottles.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottles limited edition whiskies from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blends, all adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels. The brand won Spirits Bottler of the Year at the 2023 Spirits Business Awards, and Blender of the Year went to Sam Simmons, captain of the Boutique-y clan who oversees every one of these releases.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Delicate citrus notes, with lemon drizzle cake, pink grapefruit, and clementine backed by grassy malt, anise, and a hint of leafy nettle tea.
Palate
Tangy zest, lemon shortbread, waxed peels, and more of that sweet, juicy grapefruit from the nose are joined by mellow old oak and vanilla.
Finish
That zingy citrus lingers, with sponge cake, vanilla tablet, creamy barley, and a pinch of pepper.
