    Glenmorangie Dornoch

A limited edition release from Glenmorangie inspired by the Dornoch Firth, on the shores of which the distillery is located. To achieve the desired evocative profile, Dr. Bill Lumsden used classic bourbon cask matured Glenmorangie as well as some lightly peated stock matured in Amontillado casks. LVMH also make a donation to the Marine Conservation Society for the preservation of the firth for each bottle sold.

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Familiar nectarines and apples, lemon, coastal grasses, caramel, soft spice.

    Palate

The caramel develops into demerara and the peat begins to make itself known. Tiramisu, star anise, hints of nutty smoke.

    Finish

Malty, fruity Glemorangie with some earthy, peaty depth.

    Overall

Still classic Glenmorangie, but a measured injection of peat and Amontillado cask influence help greater evoke their beautiful home.

    Amazing

Just opened a bottle that have been sitting in the cooler for the last few years. The alcohol is still strong to the nose, but so sweet, smooth and creamy on the pallet. Better than what i remembered. The finish lingers with hints of smoke and ash, then becomes sweet like honey and nectar. So much better after the years. Just Love it.

I still think of this bottle.

My friends dad had a bottle of this. Shortly after my mum passed away we went around to help with some home improvements work as his health was slowing and I was happy to just be doing something to put my mind at ease. After we'd finished a few days later he broke out a box of cigars and grabbed three glasses (onion shaped things) He handed us both lit cigar and a good served pour each and said. "Thanks lads, here's to life." my mate asked if it was the limited edition and he said, forever and a day I'll remember these words. "Every life is a limited edition." It was one of the purest moments of my entire life and I only wish I could have a bottle to share with my future son and his childhood friend in much the same way he did.

    Very special

I try not to buy no age statement whiskies. I tend to think that (some) distilleries are trying to rip us off (are you listening Macallan?). However, I have long been a fan of Glenmo's smooth house style and I fell in love with Signet while flying first class with Cathay last year. So, my curiosity got the better of me and I bought a bottle of the Bacalta and the Dornoch. I have a Duthac on order from my local store. Tasting notes often leave me baffled or feeling that there is something wrong with my nose. This however is a different experience. Peach, right there in your face, can't miss it. Aniseed/liquorice, creamy rice pudding with a hint of nutmeg, a little sea salt and a final flourish of smoked eel. Dr Lumsden, you're a genius and I hope you don't retire before I die. You are the master of the special finish, and I've tasted quite a few.

    Love it

Just came back from a vacation in Scotland and did the tour. I'm fairly new to Scotch, never believing I would love it and wow...do I.

    A legend to become legendary

Never have I thought of a Glenmo that I did not like (except from LaSanta) and this is not gonna change that. Glenmo are, in my opinion, numero uno at their trade and not only do they produce unique whisky. The make DELICOUS whisky. This one is dark sugars, appel'ish fruits and shy esrth in the nose. Let breathe and the sugar will increase. A sip reveals yummy caramelized sugar and more fruit. Mouthfeel is faaaaaaaat. I don't get the nuttyness though. The end reveals more earthy dryness without subduing the sweetness and frutyness. It lingers for quite a while which was expected from Glenmo. Really nice. This is a delicious, fun whisky to drink.
