Glenmorangie
Scotland
Single Malt
Launched in 2013, Glenmorangie Ealanta is an astonishing single malt which comes from the distillery's superb range of wood experiments. In this case, however, the whisky was fully matured in specially sourced, heavily toasted new white oak casks from Missouri's Ozark mountains. It was named "Ealanta" for the Gaelic for "skilled" and "ingenious".
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
All about Orange Zest. The ethereal long necks of Glenmorangie’s stills are famed for producing a light, fruity and almost zesty spirit, and this characteristic is turned up to 11 in this release. You’d be forgiven for thinking that you’d just been handed an old-fashioned cocktail.
Yet more candied orange, tropical fruit, a touch of vanilla, and an all-pervading sweetness that leaves you in absolutely no doubt about the fact that this has come from fresh oak.
This is where the maturity starts to shine through. The complex ethereal nature of the fruit begins to fade, and gives way to a familiar high-note of rancio and dried figs.
Yes. This is my kind of whisky. Big, brash, packed full of flavour, and not in any way hiding from - or apologising for - what it is.
Have worked my tail off tracking down a few bottles in the US. Simply a great Scotch.
virgin oak matured whisky creates something unique in the flavor that i've not the skill to describe... the unknown flavor is delicious in any case; and this is an excellent whisky.
Big fan of Glenmorangie and Macallan. This is my favorite after Macallan 18. Very smooth flavor profile.
Heavily charred virgin white american oak from start to finish? 19 years? Non chill filtered? Not tainted, changed, seasoned or finished by anything other than a single malt, virgin oak and time? Stunning, brilliant and as clean, pure and honest as whisky gets.
on my third bottle of this. Although I am more of a peat fan than the Speysides and highlands, but I love this whisky. it has become my fav everyday drink (along with any one of the many Ardbegs out there) and i would suggest at least giving this a try....
