A rather special addition to the Glenmorangie collection, this is the first time its single malt has been treated to a finish in Palo Cortado sherry casks. Inspired by the soft, smooth character of a batch of single malt that had been gently mellowing in bourbon casks for eight years, Glenmorangie’s head of whisky creation Dr. Bill Lumsden set about sourcing the rare Palo Cortado casks to finish it in. After a total of 12 years of maturation, the whisky boasts an impressively elegant array of dark stone fruit, roasted nuts, and chocolatey malt.
A welcoming array of vanilla fudge, runny honey, praline, chocolate-coated nuts, and seasonal spice.
Silky layers of milk chocolate and caramel lead to darker notes of sticky treacle, earthy nuts, and woody spice, while plum jam and spiced currants support bittersweet citrus.
Salted almonds and fragrant tobacco, with a touch of liquorice and crackles of pepper.

A lovely walnut brown colour, the nose on this is certainly sugar and spice. The high ABV takes your nose a few whiffs to get over, then the first sensation was immediately honey nut cereal. It's a deep, honey and toffee, mixed with a nuttiness, a little bitter espresso and christmas allspice. Extremely smooth and silky mouth feel gives way to a big spice hit, cinnamon and a hint of warm ginger, combine with a deep molten caramel. There's a hint of orange peel in there too, and the longer you keep it in your mouth, the more the fudgy sweetness turns into bonfire toffee. A nice warming, long finish - salted caramels, that deep heat from the spice lingers with a little leather. All in all, a lovely dram, not quite the best in their limited cask finish range, that would still have to go to the Malaga cask, but still a bloody tasty whisky.
