Glenmorangie
Scotland
Single Malt
The Original is the flagship single malt Scotch whisky from the Glenmorangie Distillery in the Highlands. Matured in a combination of first-and-second-fill American white oak casks for 10 years, the expression is a benchmark for creamy, approachable single malt. A long-running go-to dram for many whisky enthusiasts (including a few here at MoM Towers), this stuff is superb as an aepritif, though more than suitable for enjoying on a cooler evening.
Very fruity and thick. Rich notes of lemon, nectarine and apple. Spices.
Fresh and balanced, vanilla. Boiled sweets, very creamy, tiramisu, toffee.
Quite long, gentle, malty and very fruity.
A fantastic malt at a very good price. Even my wife thought it better than most. She doesn't drink whisky. Just a touch of water or a cube of ice....perfect
The Glenmorangie 10 year old ‘Original’ is quite simply the standard that all other single malt scotch whiskies should be compared (other than Islay for obvious reasons.). Much better than many, much more expensive whiskies and quite simply it is delicious, smooth, creamy and sweet. I keep trying others, there are many fabulous scotch whiskies. But I always return to my trusty favourite, it never fails to deliver.
Love it! My "go to" whisky, always smooth and consistent.
As you pointed out, a go to dram for even the most discerning of malt drinkers. Personally I am never disappointed when I taste it and in my opinion it is far superior to many supposedly "better" and certainly more expensive whiskies.
Glenmorangie is on the shelves of every single bar in Scotland for a reason. When you're tired of going on about smoke and peat and searching out those ultra-rare, super-expensive drams from distilleries which were destroyed by The Red Coats, you have always been able to rely on Glenmorangie to bring you down to Earth with an "aaahhh!" It's just, really nice. Sweet but not too sweet, smooth, buttery goodness. And I am happy to report that unlike many whiskies which have been treated shamefully (and I believe that The Scottish Government should launch an official inquiry into this criminal behaviour) Glenmorangie is still very good. The 18 year old is just beautiful, but don't look down your nose at the 10.
