Glenmorangie
Scotland
Single Malt

This superb Glenmorangie was created with a marriage of whiskies produced from two unique types of malted barley: a single estate Cadboll variety and malted chocolate barley, which is better known as a basis for craft beers.
The Signet was distilled twice through Glenmorangie's copper-pot stills, by a team of 16 distillers known as the 'Sixteen Men of Tain'. It was subsequently matured in bespoke American virgin oak casks before it was bottled at 46%, and received no chill-filtration.
While it carries no-age-statement, there is said to be an element of some of the distillery's oldest and rarest stocks, ranging from 35 to 40 years old, in this Highland single malt.
The Signet won Whisky of the Year in 2016, and this edition takes it name from the ornate square design that adorns most Glenmorangie bottles. The signet itself originated from the Hilton of Cadboll Stone, a Pictish artefact that dates back to around the year 800 AD.
The nose begins with chocolate raisins and sugared mixed peels. Toasted spices, bread and butter pudding and golden syrup complement these aromas, while a note of Angostura bitters lingers beneath.
Sweet, syrupy cinnamon and drying malt lead, before a suggestion of Terry's Chocolate Orange rises. A hint of lime rind is present, as are lychees and dates. The backdrop is filled with tobacco leaves and freshly roasted espresso beans, with a little honey-roasted cashew.
The finish dries and becomes pleasantly rubbery, as a touch of truffle oil emerges.
Utterly superb.

First experienced in one of those taster trays in a pub on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. Left the wife sitting there and ran out to an off licence - he had a bottle but I decided it against it at the time as it is NOT cheap. It remains however my favourite favourite malt, and recent "large ones" at both Royal Dornoch GC and at The Open at Royal Liverpool in the marvellous Glenmorangie Village confirmed my judgement. Master of Malt offers the best price I have found it at - I just need approval from her indoors now to invest in a bottle !!!
The last review was meant to have a 5star rating, buy a bottle of this and a bottle of BenRiach 16 year old.
This is a very special malt.Bought as a present by one of my son this was a nice surprise .An amazing whiskey with a mix of complex flavours that changes as the palate settles.Simply superb.
This dram is sublime and has all the hall marks to become a legendary whisky. I'm not going to bother with all the taste descriptions as I believe it is for you to discover but I would like to tell you all it is that good I'm planning on spending over a thousand pounds on 10 bottles for my own private reserve and I will state this fact when Glenmorangie stop making this in the future and they will, this will rocket in price and will be expensive as it becomes a legend as many of Glenmorangie's whisky expressions have done before !.
i just don't 'do 10s on ratings, but if I did, this would be it. Taste tested this gem at a new eclectic whisky & "local brew beer" bar & was floored. a couple of years ago I splurged on some 30 yr old Glenmorangie while in Vegas (rumor was they had just a few bottles they found leftover from the Rat Pack days @ this venerable chop house @ the Golden Nugget) but Signet was rich & warm where the 30 yr old SMS had been more smooth & angelic. the Signet warmed & pleased, just about making me believe I couldn't likely find a better ounce or two of joy ?. enjoy if you can!!!
