The Glenlivet
Scotland
Single Malt
An intriguing release from The Glenlivet, been finished in ex-Cognac casks for a ‘raisin-rich’ intensity, along with citrus notes and a creamy smoothness. Whisky finished in Cognac casks is not a common thing, so we're particularly interested in this expression. The name comes from Captain William Smith Grant, great-grandson of George Smith, Glenlivet’s founder.
Nose: Sherried, but somewhat putrid. Reminiscent of Balvenie. Light butterscotch. Palate: Cherry. Hard boiled candies. Hint of cloves. After: Balanced dark cherry flavor.
Not what I was hoping for having been a long time enthusiast of the Glenlivet distillery. It’s quite thin, tastes like a fairly young bottling (8-10 years?) reasonably smooth but lacks depth and has a short and quite dry finish. I was hoping for more body and an oily finish but on the plus side there is plenty of flavour to identify although nothing has much dominance. I won’t buy another bottle, I’ll be sticking to the excellent Glenlivet 15 the future.
Glad I only paid £25. Would not repurchase. Big rum and raisin ice-cream nose. Thin, weak, watery to the mouth. Unrounded, no depth, little finish. Easy drinking, inoffensive and pleasant for those who know nothing of good whisky.
Lovely easy to drink malt. Had a nip in a bar once and couldn't order anything else for the rest of the night, it is THAT good! Beautiful nose and wonderful finish. Highly recommend anyone (especially those that prefer the smoother whiskys) to give this a try
The best from The Glenlivet family without doubt . A beautiful nose , smooth taste and lovely finish . More than highly recommended
