An intriguing release from The Glenlivet, been finished in ex-Cognac casks for a ‘raisin-rich’ intensity, along with citrus notes and a creamy smoothness. Whisky finished in Cognac casks is not a common thing, so we're particularly interested in this expression. The name comes from Captain William Smith Grant, great-grandson of George Smith, Glenlivet’s founder.

I added a spot of water , really smooth , very pleasing on the palette . I could quite easily get used to drinking the Captains Reserve .
I have bought a bottle in a supermarket but I think that the abv is too low, the nose is weak and the taste light. Even if the finish is a bit spicy and we manage to get the Cognac quality, the whole thing is too light. I think that a 48% or even a cask strength should be the right thing to do.
