“After the tasting you know for sure that the nose is the best part. There it is this sherry that has always been known from good bottles. There are matches coming through that simulate the senses. I like it a lot. After a short time it starts with apricots, raisins, caramel and orange plus peel. Now the apple. It slowly becomes more mature, juicy and sweeter. That goes up to baked apple. No alcohol, no annoying notes or smells. Arrived in whisky heaven. Respect Glengoyne.”

A no age statement Glengoyne, released as part of the Spirit of Oak collection originally for the Travel Retail market. After a maturation in exceptional European and American oak, the Highland single malt was treated to a finish Pedro Ximénez casks. A thoroughly tasty and complex dram.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

Dried apricot, caramelised nuts, zesty lemon sweeties, milk chocolate and vanilla fudge.

Palate

Honeyed fruits, fresh grapes, caramelised brown sugar, lemon zest, warming pepper and ginger spice.

Finish

More honey, with citrus, more milk chocolate and a pinch more white pepper.

Lester

A voluminous sherry scent rises, paired with plum compote. A first sip reinforces the impression. Wow, he moves in Strong onset, the aromas are spreading, it is believed that the mouth is big enough. Now comes the oak, almost like marzipan, grapes, spices. Long, spicy, strong finish. Very nice drop!

Malty guy

This single malt focuses on a wonderful fruity sweetness, paired with notes of vanilla and caramel. This rich and intense aroma competes with a warming spiciness from the European sherry PX casks, which together result in a well-balanced and harmonious dram. The spiciness can be tamed with a few drops of water, but without losing this sweet and intoxicating fruitiness. Of the three tested Glengoyne bottlings, the best for me by far.

Fruity, sweet and rich whisky, with notes of honeyed almonds and walnuts, lemon rind, burnt sugar, vanilla, dark oak, dried fruit, nutmeg, sweet grapes and toasted malt.
