Introduced in 2012, Glengoyne 18 Year Old was revamped to replace the Glengoyne 17 Year Old. From the Highlands of Scotland, this single malt is matured in a mix of refill sherry casks and a generous portion of first-fill sherry casks. The packaging shows off the stunning golden tone and inviting glow imparted by the lengthy maturation. This is a wonderfully warming whisky for sure and an essential for any sherried whisky fan.
Hints of soft spice and dried peels. A little apricot, honey and vanilla.
Creamy custard and dried peels. Allspice, manuka honey and hints of butterscotch.
Creamy caramel and malt. Candied peels.
As other have said price is excessive, especially when it's quite a boring whisky, it is smooth but there is nothing much going on. The initial flavour is quite weak and generic, it the fade out quickly and that's it. Had a bottle of the 12, it's a little harsher initially but has a lovely set of flavours after that continue to develop. A drop of water opens them both up. But certainly the 18 is nice but definitely not £150 a bottle nice more like £55-£65 nice.
good whisky but not worth its price tag. This is a simple 18yo single malt with good enough flavours and aromas. First sill sherry can be smelt and tasted immediately but that soon turns pungent and mouldy. There is a fair bit of spice on the palate but again it turns in to medicinal and ruins your experience.
….the price increase from Glengoyne since ~mid 2020 has been way too excessive. Used to be my favourite distillery but they’ve priced me out as a customer. No way I can justify buying an 18-year old at this price now especially when it’s only 43% (ditto for the 21-year-old)!
One of the smoothest malts I’ve ever tasted. Small sips let’s you enjoy the taste for even longer. Highly recommended.
I’ve had several bottles of the 17 year old over a number of years. Having sampled the 25 year old ( I’ll get a bottle soon)! This 18 year old seems to be close to the whole experience of the older whiskey - really satisfying drink taken slowly - no splash of water - very highly recommended - abs I will also add - value for money !
$46.73 - $247.36
