Completely unpeated (unusual in the highlands), this Glengoyne is soft, fruity and very quaffable. A fine single malt!
Toffee apples, a little acacia honey, nectarine in syrup and spice, supported by toasted barley in the background.
Over-ripe grapes, honeyed with hints of vanilla, coconut milk and oak spice. Light touches of chocolate ice-cream.
Long, oily finish with lingering coffee notes.
This is the benchmark in the 12-year category at its relative price point. There is nothing imho that makes you regret the purchase. Quality Single Malt Scotch Whisky that any serious whisky drinker should use as a yardstick to measure any pretender at much higher prices against. Superb for what it is intended to be and is.
Some people describe it as easy, and I’d agree. It is not overpowering, just slightly malty, you don’t feel the 43%, but it numbs the mouth nicely. For 45GBP, you can’t wish for much more.
I have Glengoyne on my list as a good old stand by for any occasion. Always very agreeable, perhaps a little pricey for what it is.
First tried this whiskey at the Birmingham whiskey festival, in my opinion it's just a pleasant drink quite flavoursome and well priced
Maybe I got one from an inferior batch, but this was disappointing. Not much flavor, a tad salty, and hardly any flavor lingers. Adding water barely helped. Nice nose though. Bottom line: unmemorable experience, for me at least.
