Glengoyne
Scotland
Single Malt
Completely unpeated (unusual in the highlands), this Glengoyne is soft, fruity and very quaffable. A fine single malt!
Toffee apples, a little acacia honey, nectarine in syrup and spice, supported by toasted barley in the background.
Over-ripe grapes, honeyed with hints of vanilla, coconut milk and oak spice. Light touches of chocolate ice-cream.
Long, oily finish with lingering coffee notes.
Just missed the full 5* due to being just shy of the more favourable 46% and having no mention of non-chill filtration. That aside, a delightful and pleasing whisky that lives up to the tasting notes and one whose presentation shows real quality at the price point. Both the toffee apple and coconut are evident on the nose and palate; smooth and beautifully balanced too. Highly recommended if you want a day off from more challenging flavour profiles.
I don’t have the most sophisticated taste buds, now that’s out of the way, this is great tasting whisky. If like me you are not into the peaty stuff, then give this one a try.
Should have been 4 stars not 2 from me..should drink and rate!
I agree with ‘coconut island’….that unusual scent on the nose is like a coconut plantation, initially didn’t like it but now I can ID it reminds me of a year spent in the pacific islands..like the oily finish..all up pretty good
A lovely whisky that I had overlooked. A pleasing drink for the start to finish. I will buy it again.
