The Glenglassaugh distillery launched their Wood Finishes series in late 2017, marking the first time they've ever released cask-finished expressions. Very exciting stuff! This particular bottling was initially aged in bourbon casks before being moved over to Pedro Ximenéz for up to two years.
Sponge cake drenched in honey and hot warm chocolate sauce. Some strawberry sweetness.
Chocolate buttons, brown sugar and juicy apricot. A hint of earthy floral notes.
Sticky Toffee Pudding and blueberries.
Absolutely beautiful drop
Glenglassaugh PX Sherry Wood Finish, bottled at 46% . This is my first time trying a Glenglassaugh . Apparentky these wood finished series released in 2017 are there first time releasing cask finished expressions. Here we go. ________ On the Nose is Thick honey. i feel like I'm sticking my nose in a honey jar. Little bit of rum cake. Dark chocolate syrup. A sugar cane sweetness. Red apples after some time in the glass as well as a sweet toffee . _________ On the palate. Some oak spice on initial impact , great mouth feel. thick and oily. Gosh 46% is so lovely on a Single Malt. Some dark chocolate and brown sugar. vanilla and there's a fruit presence that buried a bit. it's like a chocolate covered raisin. little bit of cake batter. _________ The finish is medium-long , drying. full of Hershey's chocolate syrup and toffee. some cinnamon sets in. _________ This is very good. It's an NAS but it tastes older. If I had to guess, according to my palate , it feels like a 15 year old. So I'm sure there's older juice in here and/or the quality of Casks used were excellent. Either way I'm a fan, and will probably get a bottle eventually or at the very least try more #Glenglassaugh. - @whiskyhuntsman
