Glenfiddich Grand Cru 23 Year Old

The folks at Glenfiddich clearly enjoy exploring new cask types for their whisky. Whether it's peaty whisky in rum casks, or making good use of icewine casks, the distillery certainly has some experimental flair. And if experimental flair is what you're after, Glenfiddich Grand Cru 23 Year Old is the perfect thing. This single malt initially ages in American and European oak casks, before being moved over to rare French cuvée oak casks. The influence these casks has had on the whisky is fantastic, lifting the palate with notes of baked goods and fresh fruit.

Smooth and easy to drink. An absolutely fantastic bottle of fine single malt

    #Update on my review below#

After drinking a lot more of this whisky I’m down grading it to 3 stars as it’s not worth £220.00 or even 180.00. it’s worth £130.00 to £150.00 at the most as it’s just a real let down for its price but again it’s still a lovely malt but the 21 Y/O rum finish which was another let down for me was £130.00 when I bought it and I would not of payed over £90.00 to £100.00 for it if I had known. Glenfiddich are notoriously over pricing there whisky and it’s now catching on in the scotch whisky industry which is making it harder for people who want to try these whisky’s who now don’t have the means to pay for them and that’s just sad. (Thank god for M.O.M drinks by the dram as at least we get to try even though a full bottle is out of the question for a lot of folks) Anyway there’s my review both of them in full and I hope you guys get more than I did out of it. Cheers.

Fails to deliver on what it promises.

Very good. I think people who gave this whisky a poor rating is because it’s hard to detect those flavours but they are there and very nice. You really have to work this whisky to get those wine type flavours at the back end because on the front it’s just the characteristic glenfiddich flavours turned up due to its age and the amount of time it spent in the barrel. I think if they had used a younger whisky like a 12 Y/O instead of a rich decadent sweet 23 year old with strong flavours that suffercate the delicate wine type flavours that would of been much better or spent longer than 4 months finishing. Still I would value this whisky at £180.00 and not £220.00. It’s still a lovely soft and silky whisky in its on right not with standing the Grand Cru flavours and 4 months clearly didn’t do it much justice which is a shame. Gets 4 stars because it’s a lovely 23 y/o but loses a star because it doesn’t deliver on what it promises. I won’t be buying this again unless the price reduces.

Nice Package shame about the Whisky

Beautiful looking bottle, I had looked at this for a while before I tried it and ended up getting it as a sample. As previously stated I could not taste any of the age in it, whilst it is pleasant enough I don’t think it warrants the price. Nose was light and I got some apple and citrus with oak. Palate was on the bland and dull side, a little sweetness some subdued fruit and oak but nothing remarkable or particularly note worthy. Finish was short and none descript. I think the way Glenfiddich have marketed this whisky is more about the packaging image rather than the substance...... it’s a shame as it looks like a flagship product.

for someone you treasure thats no push over

whisky is whisky I tell you its a Glenfiddich Everyone has their own views on different whisky's and different presentations. I drink whisky most days to enjoy, this you will enjoy. As a gift which is its intention its right up there. A special gift for a whisky drinker will leave them stunned. It was hard to leave it alone.
