The second release in Glenfiddich's Experimental Series is their Project XX (pronounced 'twenty') expression, bringing together 20 Glenfiddich experts to create something eclectic and new. To be precise, 20 Glenfiddich brand ambassadors from 16 countries all over the world each picked a cask from the Glenfiddich warehouse. The 20 chosen whiskies were then married, and later recreated by Malt Master Brian Kinsman (partly by recipe - casks types, ages, volumes etc. - but partly through expert assessment of aroma and quality). It's a whisky that would never have come to exist any other way.
This smells like a bit of a beastie, lots of woody spicy notes, toffee and orange peel. Clearly some serious cask action going on here.
Lots of wood: cloves, cinnamon and vanilla with tingly wood tannins, all wrapped up with some sweet fudge notes.
Long and layered, with lingering notes of espresso and dark chocolate.

Might be my generic aversion to coriander, but this xx tastes like soap to me, just like coriander does.
An exceptional dram! Really easy drinking! One of the best new malts on the market recently!
I just love this, its really smooth on the pallet, has a wonderful after taste.... truly a delight for the price.
Surprisingly excellent
Just opened a second bottle of this purchased about four months later and it's not as good as the first bottle. So be aware, there is a certain amount of variation with these bottles. The second bottle all the flavours were dialed down and it was noticeably lighter. Still quite nice, but not quite worth 50 odd quid in my opinion. This should be priced at around 30 pounds in view of the lightness and relative simplicity of the whisky.
