Glenfiddich Experimental Series - Project XX

The second release in Glenfiddich's Experimental Series is their Project XX expression, which was made not simply by one Malt Master, but 20! 20 Malt Masters were invited to the Glenfiddich distillery and invited them to pick any expression from the thousands of casks maturing in the warehouse. The 20 chosen whiskies were then married by Malt Master Brian Kinsman to create this single malt you see before your eyes. Hooray for teamwork!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

This smells like a bit of a beastie, lots of woody spicy notes, toffee and orange peel. Clearly some serious cask action going on here.

    Palate

Lots of wood: cloves, cinnamon and vanilla with tingly wood tannins, all wrapped up with some sweet fudge notes.

    Finish

Long and layered, with lingering notes of espresso and dark chocolate.

By far the best you can get until you reach the GF30years old

For me, the whisky release of the year. It’s like having the complete range added to a bottle. Now some say they get a soapy finish, ok could be with certain pallets. But it’s actually the mix of so many nuances of flavours battling against each other. Adding water breaks up these flavours to allow you to taste each one slowly. Tuis whisky is truly exceptional without doubt. It’s like blending a cambelton and spayside in one bottle

    All above

This is without doubt one of the best whiskies I've ever had.ive recently had 14,15,18, year old whisky ( all Glenfiddich) all superb, but, this series one is my favorite.

    Like nothing I've had before

Very sweet, but nice spicy complexity to it. The bottle's nearly gone and I'm tempted to get another.

    Probably worth a broken wrist

Yep, I'd agree this one is good enough to suffer a subsequent fall, maybe even a broken bone. It's like the 12 yr packed with life - more and better of everything it has if you can appreciate a "lower grade" malt. I'm not a real fan of the 15 yr Solera for what that's worth. For me, this XX is a perfect in-between for the 12 yr and 18 yr, and with a higher ABV. Definitely worth a try, and MoM's price on it is great. However, make note of those coriander-soap critical reviews. I don't find that at all here, but it's caught me elsewhere, so worth keeping in mind for anyone else whose taste buds do the same freakish thing as ours from time to time.
