Part of Glenfiddich's Experimental Series comes a single malt which was finished for three months in casks which previously held IPA! Created collaboratively by Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman and IPA expert Seb Jones, the IPA which was in the casks before the whisky was specially brewed for this expression by the Speyside Craft Brewery. Bound to be a fascinating whisky for whisky and beer enthusiasts alike (and the cross-over of that Venn diagram, too).
Honey'd malt, jam tart (the kind with marmalade, specifically), pear drops.
Treacle and sponge cake. Spicy hop notes begin to take shape, followed by hints of bitter citrus peel.
Light oak, melted butter and coffee bean.
This ticks the boxes for me. I sampled it on a whisky flight and loved it instantly. Easy to drink with a small amount of water.
There is a good, even very good Scotch in there; honey, some pepper, a bit of hotness and body. And then someone ruined it with hop flavors. Inappropriate bitter notes where they don't belong. This was a well intentioned and very disappointing Christmas gift. I may have to lie about it and figure it out how to get rid of it. I know someone who might drink it.
Perfectly drinkable malt, smooth but really not very impressive as lacks any real complexity of flavours.
I was once told by a gentleman in the industry, you can often stumble on the same signature flavours in less expensive whisky, as the much beloved expensive one's. This particular whisky is the identical twin of Oban 14
An excellent whiskey, smooth beginning with sweet undertones followed up by comforting after notes. The IPA addition did add a subtle addition. Overall a pleasant reflecting malt whiskey. That I would happily enjoy besides a warming fire reflecting on the days events.
