Rum Finish

Let the great experiment... Continue! Glenfiddich has added a new expression to its Experimental Series, unveiling Fire & Cane in mid-2018. Malt master Brian Kinsman has given some of the distillery's peated single malt a three-month finishing period in rum casks - but not just any old rum casks. He's selected rum casks from a variety of South American countries to finish this whisky, which ought to play nicely with the burly peat notes at its core.
Billowing soft peat notes, like distant smoke on the wind. Rich sweet toffee with zesty fresh fruit notes and spiciness.
Like a Highland peat campfire, with oak notes and toffee. Sharp green fruit, sweet baked apple and soft smoke.
Lingering smokiness and sweetness.

Initially, apples and pears, followed by ginger and cardoman spices. Tropical fruits arrive a little later, but are strong. Toffee and caramel along with vanilla. Citrus fruits, lime and orange. Peat is very very subtle indeed, but blends well. Medium mouthfeel. 43% ABV but may not be chill filtered. Probably barrier filtered. Finish is orangey and spicy.
Excellent !! One of the best I’ve tasted
Didn't expect to enjoy the taste, quite a departure from the smooth, gentle sophistication of the aged examples of the marque, but enjoyable from the peaty heat on the first taste to the smooth sweetness as it goes down.
Beautiful
Does a mere 3 months finishing in an alternate cask really allow enough time for the cask to impart it's flavor profile? Seems awfully short and gimmicky to me and a way to pawn off young whisky. Is Glenfiddich the most underwhelming distillery out there?
