Glenfiddich
Scotland
Single Malt

This single malt from Glenfiddich was aged for 14 years before a finish in new American and Spanish oak casks. They say the American oak adds spice, vanilla, and fruit, and the Spanish oak brings elegant fruit, spice, and complexity.

Very nice whisky. Fruity, oak & vanilla on the nose. Palate is sweet and smooth. Very spicy, warming oak finish that lasts. A good beginners whisky for it's drinkability and low cost, and a great bottle for an everyday glass. Another winner from Glenfiddich.
However like any single malt some of them are just a bit harder to get along with at first, let her breathe abit. Lovely oak pear taste, defenitely growing on me !
I'm a latecomer to the world of single malt, but have been making up for lost time trying lots of different varieties and visiting distilleries in Speyside, The Highlands and The Islands. I don't mind the smokey, peaty Islay malts, but have a definite preference for Speysides and this is no different. Its quite similar to Glenlivet French Oak, which I really enjoyed, however I think I prefer the Glenfiddich, it seems to be richer and have more going on. It leaves a lovely taste in the mouth for a few minutes after. There is no harshness or alcohol burn like I get with the Macallan Gold, just lovely smooth fruity, nutty goodness.
I typically prefer Islay malts but this is probably my favourite whisky at the moment. I'm a complete novice on the subject right enough - but out of the 7 or 8 single malts I bought this year this is the first to get finished with then an immediate repurchase. Super smooth - I could see this being a good introduction to whisky for those (like me) that are relatively new to the appreciation of a good whiskey. Highly recommended.
First pour was very disappointing I found the finish to be quite rough however after letting the bottle breathe abit I came back to it and was pleasantly surprised. .. sure its no high quality single malt like a glenfarclas but it smells and tastes nice and is a pretty darn good value for a 14 year old!
