    Glenfiddich 12 Year Old

Glenfiddich 12 single malt whisky is part of the distillery's flagship collection. It is an award-winning Speyside whisky and an excellent choice for seasoned sippers or those who are new to whisky. It has lots of light and fruity flavours thanks to a high cut point. Aged for 12 years in American and European oak casks, it's also the world's most awarded single malt!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Grain. Slightly floral, mineralic. Spirity, orchard fruit, malty, honey. Citrus develops.

    Palate

    Light, floral, spices. Very smooth.

    Finish

Sweet, touch of oak and general fruit, oily.

    Overall

Stereotypical Speyside. Consistent - a good benchmark.

    The Gold Standard

Reviews for Glenfiddich 12 Year Old

I do not understand the poor reviews. Maybe I just always get a good bottle. My preference is for delicate, non-peated malts and this is my favourite. Delightful nose with honey, apples and pears and vanilla from the oak casks. These flavours carry through the taste and also the finish which has no burn at all. For me the quintessential malt.

    Alright

It's fine; pretty reliable, also pretty boring. Really nothing to write home about - sure, there's honey, some orchard flavour and some saltiness, but it all seems a bit limp (which is not the same as light and delicate). A good whisky if you don't drink a lot of whisky, and want something decent in the drinks cabinet - also more versatile than Glenmorangie.

    Guy Tregear Feb 6, 2022

Buy it for what it is, not what you wish it were.

I reviewed this whisky two years ago and liked it. I bought another bottle today and it seems similar: light, oily with a touch of salinity. The mouthfeel is pleasantly soft and buttery. I do believe however that the mention of sherry casks, which I am certain is technically true, is somewhat disingenuous. There is only the merest whisper of sherry here; the faintest aftertaste of a pale honey. I can understand the disappointment of some reviewers who are looking for something "bigger", "meatier". But the tasting notes above are quite accurate. And there is certainly room in the vast realm of whisky for such a dram. Now the question becomes... this or Glenmorangie?

    Something has changed feels younger

Sadly not what it used to be even 3 years ago. Definitely the glenfiddich 12 has changed not only the label but the spirit i feel it more immature like being 8 yo. Lack of reasonable complexity that used to have, it's more grassy and characterless.

    Average

Nothing special . Very light, spirity, medium finish.
