Glenfarclas
Scotland
Single Malt
A wonderfully sherried 15 year old dram from Glenfarclas, boasting oodles of dried fruit notes. It’s bottled at 46% ABV simply because this was the strength that George Grant’s grandfather preferred it at. Happily, this also results in the Speysider boasting a big, juicy, Christmas cake profile. A fabulously complex Scotch while also being easily drinkable.
Intense, powerful sherry. Cream sherry, certainly – Pedro Ximenez? almost… a touch of peppermint? An almost rancio quality to this. Smells older than 15.
Raisins, more sherry, orange peel, walnuts, dates.
Incredibly long, complex, more of the walnuts again.
Water draws out sweetness. This is Christmas cake, not whisky. Simply astonishing.
Not quite the Christmas cake in a glass it was twenty years ago but the excellent distillate makes this worthwhile. Full bodied with cereal and spice notes to the fore. Buttery lingering finish.
Used to drink this regularly 20 years ago. The profile has changed losing some of the rich christmas cake sherry notes but the current version is still an excellent whisky, full bodied and distinctive. There is still a sherry presence but the excellent distillate is what primarily carries this now .
Beautiful nose that you could get lost in. Add a drop of water and the silky sherry notes entangle your tongue taking you to Christmas heaven. A true delight at a very affordable price
Brilliant. One of the best in the range. Better than some older vintages. They got this one bang on.
Absolutely fantastic.. I love everything about this expression! I am a fan of ex sherry cask but this bottle delivers in spades. ?
