In celebration of Glenfarclas 105's 50th birthday, the distillery in Speyside has released a limited edition variation of the robust, punchy expression made exclusively with whisky aged for at least 22 years! Back in 1968, Glenfarclas changed the game with the release Glenfarclas 105, a whisky bottled at 60% ABV (or 105° degrees proof), almost the vast majority of whiskies were being bottled at the standard 40% ABV. Originally bottled as a Christmas gift by George S. Grant for distillery workers and friends, 105 soon became one of Glenfarclas' most loved expressions - and we reckon this older limited edition release will be rather popular too.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Dense malt loaf with salted butter. Dark chocolate and wafts of cigar box.
Walnut, honey, prune, punchy cinnamon and nutmeg, more tobacco and earthy oak.
Sherried spices and coffee bean notes last ages.
Firstly, with all due respect, in regard to your Bottling Note - Prior to 1968 the vast majority of whiskies were bottled at 75 Degrees, 25 under-proof (43%A.B.V.). This expression is good but not excellent. For the high strength it drinks well, but not as well as it should for its age. I think a few more years would do the trick.
Wowzers! What a malt! 22 year old Glenfarclas 105. Everything a seasoned 105 drinker could wish for in a glass. Tasting notes absolutely spot on here. Tobacco and Coffee notes throughout. Possibly the greatest cigar malt ever made. The 60% really holds up to the astringency of the cigar smoke. Bravo Glenfarclas! Easiest 5/5 I’ve ever given!
