Glenfarclas
Scotland
Single Malt
Here we have an absolute classic Speysider from a long-time family-owned distillery. This 25 year old single malt from Glenfarclas spent its days in 100% Oloroso sherry casks. It’s complex and delicately sherried, a whisky that’s sure not to disappoint. It won gold at the 2019 International Spirits Challenge and makes a great after dinner treat. Awesome.
A touch of menthol. Classic Sherry notes, less pronounced than the 15 year old perhaps, but the complexity is greater.
Incredibly clean central palate, but amazingly tangy. Really zingy top notes. Sherry and creamy barley, hints of gingerbread and nutty chocolate.
Very, very long and complex finish, oak-rich, hints of smoke, cocoa, buttery...
One of our all-time favourite Speyside malts.
Pour it in an ice cold glass & sip it! Heavenly!
TBH I've not been exposed to that many 25yo single malts, but I tried this in an old school pub in Edinburgh last week and was instantly hooked! If only I could afford this as my go to tipple...
Great dram and deep in flavour with a great mouthfeel... But at its current price; not a chance! I paid £115 for it back in Feb 2022 from Dunkeld Whisky Box and that was more than enough...
There is a perceived wisdom that says "a minute in the glass per year in the cask" for malt whisky to breathe an find its optimum balance. But in the past I've found older Glenfarclas tended to need a little longer, around 30-35 mins for the 25yo. But with recent batches I find it needs to be left a good deal longer still. In fact, ideally I would leave it until they find they aren't selling any and bring the bloody price back down to where it used to be!
Received a free sample dram with my latest order ( thanks whiskysanta !) . Was expecting so much but this under delivered. Pleasant enough flavour but really lacking in depth and body . Could be so much better at 48% and NCF. Enjoyable enough as a freebie but very glad I hadn't just dropped over 200 quid on a full bottle .
