Lots of sherry and fruit in this, Glenfarclas 12 was originally bottled for export and travel retail markets. In 2006, it was named the "Best Sherried Whisky" in the Single Malt World Cup, and in 2007 and 2008 it won Gold at the Stockholm Beer and Whisky Festival.
Light and creamy with a mix of supple, soft sherry and Manuka honey. Gentle and well-balanced, there are hints of smoke, rich oak, and a little pine resin.
Medium-bodied, with notes of date and walnut cake, Oloroso sherry and hints of earthy forest floor. A beautiful note of malt, with toffee apple and a touch of smoke.
Spicy and long, notes of allspice, cinnamon and cloves, with orange zest and sherry.

I'm usually a generous critic. but this one was rough. I have my favorites across the price spectrum (Ancnoc 12, Auchentoshan, Glendronach, Scapa, Lagavulin, Ardbeg, and an occasional splurge on Macallan 18 or a Balvenie 21). nonetheless, I like to try every single malt I find. so I picked a bottle up of the Farclas 12. And I was a bit disappointed after the reviews has set some relatively high expectations. this whisky is very immature. the nose is not nice and the finish not smooth. it got better with a rock but neat or on stones, it is down right gritty. Too much for me. I compare it to a slightly worse/less mature glenfiddich 12. Auchentoshan Classic or Ancnoc 12 are better in my opinion. the 5/10 is for the dram with one good size rock. I'd give it 2/10 neat/stones
Never been unlucky enough to open a corky scotch. However, it happens more frequently with wine. The store where I buy wine and spirits here takes the corky bottles back and replaces them for new ones free of charge.
Got to be careful with this, have drunk it a tonne of times in pubs and love it as per the glowing reviews elsewhere, a truly delicious dram. However, upon receiving a bottle for my birthday and excitedly opening it and diving in disappointment: sulphur! And it's serious sulphur too, underlies the nose with eggy/matchy stench and is basically undrinkable, don't know how it got to market :(
Just finishing off a bottle. This has to be one of the best I've ever tasted. Just got a 15yr old and cant wait to open it. In fact I'm off to do just that right now. Someone below said in a word "unctuous" I couldn't agree more..fantastic! Wonder what the 40yr old tastes like?
Almost finished my first bottle of Glenfarclas 12. What a dram. Probably one of the first time I plan buying another bottle of the same scotch. Try it with a dark chocolate, it's a perfect match. That nose: ginger, bourbon vanilla, apricots. Add some water to it and let it stand still for a while before savoring. Sip is slowly to discover all the nuances in taste. Some peat, sherry, lemon, very crisp. Lovely stuff.
