Glenfarclas 105 is a superb cask strength whisky, with a history that can be traced to 1968. When the original incarnation was released that year, Glenfarclas became the first distillery to release a barrel proof single malt whisky.
The bottling was eventually re-named to 105, referring to its alcohol content in British Proof, which equates now to 60% ABV.
The 105 doesn't carry an age statement presently, making it rare among Glenfarclas bottlings. Although, there are suggestions that it is matured for 8-10 years in a combination of both ex-sherry and ex-bourbon barrels.
Drying, assertive and richly spiced, the 105 makes for a superb dram, one the Malt Maniacs rated as the best “Bang for your buck” whisky in 2004. Add a drop of water if you please to explore its depth - and don't be put off by that ABV, there's plenty of flavour here to enjoy.
Great depth, Sherry. Creamy and nutty. Honey on toast, touch of smoky coffee.
Silken, spicy and peppery oak. Almond, praline, hazelnut, dried peels, fruity. Touch of Armagnac, hint of rancio perhaps?
Long, peppery and nutty.

Amazing stuff the glenfarclas 105. I make sure to always have this whisky with me. Great flavors, sherry bomb on the nose, nutty, creamy, even tarragon.. the nose has great depth and many layers. Dried fruits, resins.. one could go on and on. Rich and full bodied in the mouth, very very silken mouth feel and extremely full. On the palate you get all the flavors the nose promises, the development is just awesome. Extremely long finish, again nutty, pepper, slight peat and seaweed as well. This whisky is totally worth the money at 60% ABV it sure is a bang for your buck. Enjoy, buy one bottle and you will want to buy more, I purchased 2 more after the first.
I was fortunate to sample this beauty on a ferry to France, I thought I was a bit of a whiskey buff having tasted many a single malt, having walked the Spey side walk many years I went into many a whiskey distillery including Glenfarclas, but missed this, superb single malt well I've died and gone to heaven mb
This is one of the few drams that I actually really like with the addition of water. It just makes the flavors come to fruition. Nose-sherry, nutmeg, cinnamon, almonds. Palate-big sherry dominance, nutella, peat with a hint of smoke. Finish-long, dry and nutty with still lots of sherry to be had. This is a nice warmer upper. Enjoy
If you water it down to 46% yourself you get almost 1,5 liters for the price of one:) Its like the 12yo but on steroids, great stuff
What can I say about cask strength whisky's? Most of the time they're strong and unrefined, and this Glenfarclas is no exception. The nose warms you up, your nostrils go limp instantly. If you can still smell anything yet, you may track some vanilla and toffy on the way. The palata is truly insane. A burning inferno, peppery explosions. It warms the inside of your mouth until it goes numb, being the alcohol doing its work. I still was able to sense a bit of woodfire in it. The finish is torturously long with hints of dried fruit and more pepper, making it a sultry experience. An absolute animal amongst the whisky's, and you've got to appreciate that (although it offends you all the way through, so be prepared for that. A few drops of water will simmer it down a bit). (RB)
