Glenfarclas 105 is a superb cask strength whisky, with a history that can be traced to 1968. When the original incarnation was released that year, Glenfarclas became the first distillery to release a barrel proof single malt whisky.
The bottling was eventually re-named to 105, referring to its alcohol content in British Proof, which equates now to 60% ABV.
The 105 doesn't carry an age statement presently, making it rare among Glenfarclas bottlings. Although, there are suggestions that it is matured for 8-10 years in a combination of both ex-sherry and ex-bourbon barrels.
Drying, assertive and richly spiced, the 105 makes for a superb dram, one the Malt Maniacs rated as the best “Bang for your buck” whisky in 2004. Add a drop of water if you please to explore its depth - and don't be put off by that ABV, there's plenty of flavour here to enjoy.
Great depth, Sherry. Creamy and nutty. Honey on toast, touch of smoky coffee.
Silken, spicy and peppery oak. Almond, praline, hazelnut, dried peels, fruity. Touch of Armagnac, hint of rancio perhaps?
Long, peppery and nutty.

The 12 YO Glenfarclas is one of my top favorites, even #1 most of the time. This cask strength version for me needs more water to calm the burn down. I drink the 12 yo with just a few drops of water per dram. This I have to add about 25% water to make it enjoyable. It is a very good whiskey, though I enjoy the 12 yo a lot better. I'm still trying to find the 15 yo. I'll give this a 4 star rating because I love Glenfarclas and the price of this bottle was only a few dollars more than the 12. Cheers!
Beast of a malt. A regal, graceful beast like a tiger in the wild, but a beast nonetheless. Nose is sherry all through. A bit dry. Chocolates and rich dundee cake with spices and dark fruits I used to have at Christmas as a child. Palate continues on similar notes. Sherry, giving way to chocolates, spicy cake and woody oak. Finish is looong, dry, with pepperbombs and a trace of bitterness. What I find unbelievable is the combination of strength, balance and smoothness of flavors in a 120 proof whisky. Zero alcohol burn. It's quite incredible really. Got to try more in this style.
superb with a touch of water and some time (10-15 mins) to open up.
Every whisky enthusiast should have this in their cabinet! Must have at this price point. PS add some water!
bang or buck dont know, must say glengoyne cs is very similar, is it really better? have to see these too hand in hand allmost..i remember goyne was with more depth somehow.. but yea my memory is an elephant.
