    Glenfarclas 105

Glenfarclas 105 is a superb cask strength whisky, with a history that can be traced to 1968. When the original incarnation was released that year, Glenfarclas became the first distillery to release a barrel proof single malt whisky.

The bottling was eventually re-named to 105, referring to its alcohol content in British Proof, which equates now to 60% ABV.

The 105 doesn't carry an age statement presently, making it rare among Glenfarclas bottlings. Although, there are suggestions that it is matured for 8-10 years in a combination of both ex-sherry and ex-bourbon barrels.

Drying, assertive and richly spiced, the 105 makes for a superb dram, one the Malt Maniacs rated as the best “Bang for your buck” whisky in 2004. Add a drop of water if you please to explore its depth - and don't be put off by that ABV, there's plenty of flavour here to enjoy.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Great depth, Sherry. Creamy and nutty. Honey on toast, touch of smoky coffee.

    Palate

Silken, spicy and peppery oak. Almond, praline, hazelnut, dried peels, fruity. Touch of Armagnac, hint of rancio perhaps?

    Finish

    Long, peppery and nutty.

    Astonishing

This is the last of my birthday whisky's to review and I think I saved the best for last. This is like the 12 year on steroids all the same cherry/apple /caramel/honey/vanilla pudding goodness at a cask strength.Glenfarclas does the sherry thing better than any other distillery in my opinion I am a huge fan of this wonderful independant distillery.Drink this it is epic. Great Scot!

Words fail! Utterly delightful. Overwhelming flavors. Needs a bit of water to open it completely, but what amazingly intense and concentrated flavors. Wow.

    Seriously good

This is exactly as the website suggests. Brilliant value and worth every 4475 pennies. Needs a bit of water to counter the alcohol but it's still super smooth.

    Christmas Present

I received a 3cl bottle of this in a "Drinks by the Dram" 5 pack from my sister-in-law for Christmas. I shared it with a friend who is also a Scotch lover. I won't bore you nosing notes, etc., but I will tell you that after enjoying the aroma for a good 30 seconds, we took our first sip. We both said "Wow. That's pretty good Scotch." After letting it breathe for maybe 2 minutes, we added a little water, stirred it a bit, and had another sip. We both said "WOW!! That's REALLY good Scotch." The flavors just exploded out of it. It is incredibly subtle and well-nuanced. I will definitely buy a bottle of this in the near future.
