    Glenfarclas 105

Glenfarclas 105 is a superb cask strength whisky, with a history that can be traced to 1968. When the original incarnation was released that year, Glenfarclas became the first distillery to release a barrel proof single malt whisky.

The bottling was eventually re-named to 105, referring to its alcohol content in British Proof, which equates now to 60% ABV.

The 105 doesn't carry an age statement presently, making it rare among Glenfarclas bottlings. Although, there are suggestions that it is matured for 8-10 years in a combination of both ex-sherry and ex-bourbon barrels.

Drying, assertive and richly spiced, the 105 makes for a superb dram, one the Malt Maniacs rated as the best “Bang for your buck” whisky in 2004. Add a drop of water if you please to explore its depth - and don't be put off by that ABV, there's plenty of flavour here to enjoy.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Great depth, Sherry. Creamy and nutty. Honey on toast, touch of smoky coffee.

    Palate

Silken, spicy and peppery oak. Almond, praline, hazelnut, dried peels, fruity. Touch of Armagnac, hint of rancio perhaps?

    Finish

    Long, peppery and nutty.

Great strong whisky..........just shame about the cork

A great whisky. I've tried the 15 and the 21 but 105 is a brilliant addition. A very strong dram and the taste really opens up with water (actually found I had to put a little more in than I normally would due to the alcohol %). My only disappointment is the cork. This is the 2nd bottle I've had and both corks snapped. I am very careful when opening and haven't had it happen on any other whiskies. Googled it and seems to be a very common problem with the 105. A real shame!

I might have got the water right ..

.. and the oak, wine, and honey dance into the distance with a hint of salt besides. I still don't favour the initial nose, or even the taste greatly , but the after taste is just fantastic.

    Glenfarclas 105 Tasting Note

MoM got it about right on the tasting notes, but you have to treat this dram with huge respect. It is way beyond Aberlour A'bunadh and Lahproig Cask Strengh in its nature. This is a raw out of the cask belter with a marvellous taste range. If you get the water right, which I have not so far, it might be special. My best attempt at taming the beast has been a wee straight nip.

    This is stunning stuff

Deeper than the Pacific, tastier than your wildest dreams. An orchard in a bottle, a heroic malt to be treated with respect. Love it.
