    Glenfarclas 105

Glenfarclas 105 is a superb cask strength whisky, with a history that can be traced to 1968. When the original incarnation was released that year, Glenfarclas became the first distillery to release a barrel proof single malt whisky.

The bottling was eventually re-named to 105, referring to its alcohol content in British Proof, which equates now to 60% ABV.

The 105 doesn't carry an age statement presently, making it rare among Glenfarclas bottlings. Although, there are suggestions that it is matured for 8-10 years in a combination of both ex-sherry and ex-bourbon barrels.

Drying, assertive and richly spiced, the 105 makes for a superb dram, one the Malt Maniacs rated as the best “Bang for your buck” whisky in 2004. Add a drop of water if you please to explore its depth - and don't be put off by that ABV, there's plenty of flavour here to enjoy.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Great depth, Sherry. Creamy and nutty. Honey on toast, touch of smoky coffee.

    Palate

Silken, spicy and peppery oak. Almond, praline, hazelnut, dried peels, fruity. Touch of Armagnac, hint of rancio perhaps?

    Finish

    Long, peppery and nutty.

for the money its a star

A powerful yet youngish whisky from the great Glenfarclas Distillery.. 60% abv is similar to a'bunadh and the 2 are similar in profile too.. This has some great bubblegum in with the fruit and sherried peels. plenty pepper on the mouth and a long satisfying finish.. takes water well too; as much as you like. for the money its a star. struth

    Value-packed Sherry Bomber

I picked up a 1 litre bottle of this in the duty free at Nairobi Airport for just $41... that's just over £30, and I've had 105 before so yes it was the real deal! Absolute Sherry Bomb that you have to try neat first up just to see if you can stop yourself uttering 'Wow!' With a little water the whole thing develops into an excellent dram to sip and consider at ease. Amazing!

    Sherry baby.

Went on a cask strength binge with my collection and found this gem that was to the level many bourbons state “cask strength”. Understatement to add water, and labeled as such. Let it set for a bit, and enjoy. Sherry really comes out once you tame the 60%.

Great value cask strength whisky, better with a drop of water.

This is a very intense young whisky. I would highly recommend adding a few drops of water to this one. Once you do, the sherry and fresh fruit notes will open up on the nose, as well as toning down the sharp tang on the 60% liquid. Tasting the sherry oak is only really possible with a splash of water, and with a long finish it is a very tasty whisky given it's NAS (and presumably young) profile. A solid cask strength whisky at a very reasonable price.

    Going to buy another!

Loved it. Given to me as a birthday present last September. Just finished it in March...
