This is the 12 year old expression from The Singleton of Glendullan series, originally released for the Travel Retail market. Tasty stuff, which ought to work well as an aperitif style dram.
Soft vanilla and sawdust as it opens, leading on to notes of dried fruit and mixed nuts.
Drying at first with oak and cinnamon, before hints of fresh apple and caramelised pear bring a juiciness to the palate.
A very subtle touch of smoke develops underneath toffee and blueberry on the finish.
I first tried it with a couple pieces of ice left for 60 seconds and thought it a bit thin. Then I tried it straight and found it much more enjoyable with hints of vanilla and caramel followed by what I perceived as pear which was lingering until a slightly bitter finish… not only in a bad way…and some heat at the end. No peat if thats your fancy, no heavy citrus and honey if you like that… but it is not a bad dram and for the price I might pick it up from time to time. I have favorites… mostly on the peaty side… but I always feel like stepping away from some favorites, because… when you go back they become all the better. This is not a bad expense for stepping away from your favorites!
Bought this at Male airport in the Maldives . The Duty free was low on stock of the usual whisky brands due to the Covid chaos ..So by suggestion of the assistant there who recommended I should try it ..I was pleasantly surprised ...light ,creamy and fruity to taste and a steal at 52 USD for 1 litre (£37) . Although only at 40 % proof a nice companion for.me during my 10 mandatory UK government hotel quarentine . A good surprise buy..
Easy to the palate as the hint Toffee refreshes the finish. Wish there was more of caramelized pear working but a great choice over all
Much better than some reviews state. Nice and mellow with very good flavor, a perfect begginers scotch and excellent for the price.
There's a reason that Singleton advertises itself as a great scotch for cocktails. There's not much to enjoy on the nose or palate. Maybe it would have had more character if it were bottled at a higher proof.
