Single Malt
This Highland single malt has been matured in oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks for big helpings of dried fruit character and sweet spice. Bottled naturally coloured, non-chill filtered, and at a robust cask strength ABV, a drop of water wouldn't go amiss here. A great whisky to cosy up with next to the fireplace, this one.
Dark gingerbread, with candied orange peel, dried raisins, and a touch of toasted almonds.
Rich fruitcake, cocoa nibs, dried currants, clove, cinnamon, and some dark muscovado sugar.
Warm winter spices build, with almond nougat.
My favorite sherry from now. Very rich and intense, contains virtually everything a whisky of this kind is expected to offer. Full satisfaction even in small amounts.
A beast in beast's clothing.. European oak and sherry in command here and needs lots of water.. Very nice when tamed a bit but be wary of this... possibly the pepperiest whisky ive ever tasted.. youngish too but lots of sherry, wood, and a bit of bitter chocolate; maybe cherries too... struth
I rarely write a whiskey review. But this arrived today and I was beside myself with excitement (I am with every new bottle that arrives) and this did not disappoint. No diluting for me. Into a glass down the hatch, slowly, cautiously, lovingly... It made me smile. Cracking!
Wow! Picked this up for around 80$ USD in NYC (a little pricier than most other areas), but I have to say I'm satisfied with my purchase. An intense nose and palate. I get sherry and dark fruits, with a little chocolate in the back. A great whiskey to sip on, enjoyed neat for the power and full impact.
I have been with this bottle for about a week now, its seriously good... Give time to open up in the glass - 15 minutes or so... With or without water its a very easy dram to drink and the high ABV integrates very well, balance between cask and spirit is proper, viscous, sticky, really nice mouth fill. I have not tried the previous batch releases but will have to look them up now. Its a recommended buy.
