A 21 year old Glendronach released in 2011, and aged in a mix of sherry casks (Oloroso and sweet Pedro Ximenez dessert sherry). The result is really very good indeed. Interestingly enough, this whisky has no political associations. It is, in fact, named "Parliament" after the collective term for a group of rooks - and there is a Parliament of Rooks living in the trees near GlenDronach...
Please note: We're afraid we can't guarantee which vintage you will receive. It'll still be yummy GlenDronach no matter the vintage, mind!
Soft smoke and lemon juice, cedar wood, apple peel, toasty oak, soft earth, date and walnut cake and a hint of freshly made espresso.
Golden syrup, soft, juicy raisins, tangy oak notes, peach, cherry blossom, cocoa and honeydew melon.
Sherry tones lead the finish, with a hint of sulphur, chocolate, luscious fruit and pepper.
Rich and multidimensional classic sherry bomb. Nose is probably its best part, though body and finish also does not dissapoint (maybe - just maybe - slightly too sweet, to my taste). The only downside is much alcoholic influence to such an old age. Couldn't get rid of it even after giving the glass some time or water. Given the price, I hoped for a little bit more gentle experience (though it is still quite sophisticated overall). 91/100
This version brings out Oloroso and sweet Pedro Ximenez dessert sherry flavours, quite well. I'm a sucker for a great whiskey with these cask finishes and this version does not disappoint. But for a Highland region to put out such a good whiskey is rare, in my opinion. Give it a try, you might just keep in in your liquor cabinet for a special occasion, like i did.
GenlDronach 21 YO is the pinnacle of sherry whiskey.
Probably the best whisky I have ever tasted. Beats the Macallan 18 and 25 and is much cheaper
I was given a 24 whisky tasting selection some time ago. I drank them blind, scored them and then looked at what I'd just tasted. The Parliament came out top, above some big names and my previous favourite, which came second. Six years on, my partner has just bought me a whole bottle for my big birthday. Had a dram at Christmas and was not disappointed. If anything is was better than I remember. They told me it was being discontinued. So I immediately ordered another one which has just arrived. I will savour every mouthful.
