The GlenDronach 15 Year Old - Revival

The Revival has been revived! The GlenDronach's 15 Year Old Revival was a much-loved expression, though was sadly discontinued in 2015 by the distillery, citing lack of maturing stocks. However, stocks have been replenished and The GlenDronach 15 Year Old Revival has returned to our shelves! Matured in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks, this stuff is hugely flavoursome, aromatic and complex.

Please note: We're afraid we can't guarantee which vintage you will receive. It'll still be yummy GlenDronach no matter the vintage, mind!

    excellent value against modern competitors

Everyone knows that this isn't the whisky of old. They've changed a few things here or there apparently that takes a fair bit of character away from this bottle, or so I've read. Since I've not had those older bottlings, I can't speak to that. What I can tell you is that I enjoy sherried scotch more than any other variety, and I enjoy this bottle more than Macallan 12, more than Dalmore 12, more than Glenmorangie LaSanta and yes more than my Glenfarclas 25. Not as much (though it's a different ballpark) as Signet, but to me, someone who hasn't had the original bottling, this is an excellent bottle. Good legs in the glass, dark fruits on the nose, medium mouthfeel, sweet, dark, rich finish. Very solid 4 stars.

    a shadow of itself

checking back on past orders, i used to buy the old bottling for £38 in 2014, which was my go to scotch, but fast forward to now and it's a pale imitation of it's past glory, with different casks, chill filtering, and you can tell there isn't the more aged and mature scotch in there that they used to be, and although i would'nt expect the price to stay the same, the huge % increase for an inferior product living on past glory reputation is really out of kilter & a con, so i sadly won't be buying again, and i never thought i would give it the measly rating i have

Was 5 star but now 1 star since chill fitration bought in.

Unfortunately this whisky has gone through two downgrades in flavour. One in 2015 and the other now that Glendronach is chill filtering their whisky. A very big retrograde step. I have enjoyed Glendronach 15 (and 18 & 21), but will not be buying any more bottles until the distillery stop chill filtering their product - it just takes all the flavour from the whisky (and I notice the difference).

    A Has been

Before it went out of stock in 2015 the 'old' revival was my favourite scotch, but this new variation is not a patch, it's much 'thinner' than before, yet at a huge % price hike, & it uses the same name and label which is a con really, so I won't buy it again. it's not 'bad', dont get me wrong, but for £60+ you can do better.

    Bob Needham Sep 15, 2021

    Not for me

I’ll stick with the Glendronach 12 and the Port Wood version. The Revival has too much of an overpowering alcohol bite for me, and if I add water to it, I might as well just buy the 12 year original.
