    Glendalough Double Barrel Irish Whiskey

Glendalough Double Barrel Irish Whiskey is a single grain Irish whiskey, initially matured in American bourbon barrels before enjoying a finishing period of six months in Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks. This comes bottled at 42% ABV, brought down to this strength by Wicklow mountain water. A rather tasty release presented by Glendalough, rich in vanilla, caramel, Christmas spices and dried fruit notes.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

A creamy, malty nose begins with rich vanilla, white chocolate and buttery fudge. Notes of cooking apples, white grapes, marzipan icing and toasted oak form in the backdrop.

    Palate

Succulent caramel, salty melted butter and crème anglaise provide a thick, decadent sweetness with a fruity underlay from blackberries and marmalade.

    Finish

Polished oak and a hint of wood spice linger.

    isolate

Beginning bourbon flavors not felt so much on the nose cream and vanilla start end is quite long but a sugary final is too long

A real treat. An unusual whiskey, in my opinion.

I bought this whiskey after visiting the monastery where it is made outside of Dublin. It is wonderful with a taste of violet. A charming whiskey, but not one that you'd like to have a second glass. Full of flavor.

    Not yet ready

It seems unfinished..almost like it needs a few more years in the cask. The sweetness doesn't make up for the sharp, almost bitter rawness. This is one I'll drink on ice, and then I'll wait a few years and try another bottle.
