    Glendalough Double Barrel Irish Whiskey

Glendalough Double Barrel Irish Whiskey is a single grain Irish whiskey, initially matured in American bourbon barrels before enjoying a finishing period of six months in Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks. This comes bottled at 42% ABV, brought down to this strength by Wicklow mountain water. A rather tasty release presented by Glendalough, rich in vanilla, caramel, Christmas spices and dried fruit notes.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

A creamy, malty nose begins with rich vanilla, white chocolate and buttery fudge. Notes of cooking apples, white grapes, marzipan icing and toasted oak form in the backdrop.

    Palate

Succulent caramel, salty melted butter and crème anglaise provide a thick, decadent sweetness with a fruity underlay from blackberries and marmalade.

    Finish

Polished oak and a hint of wood spice linger.

    Go for it

Heavy Sherry notes and a hint of heat.I am a big Redbreast 12 fan it not up to that standards but for the price you can’t beat it ?☘️?

    A good buy

Enjoyed from the first taste at a dealer and immediately bought a bottle. I’m a Jameson stout fan but enjoy Glendalough for a different taste. Agree with most of all the positive reviews , in terms of nose , palate and finish

    Great buy will purchase again

Very smooth with great flavours- nice vanilla taste with a nice bit of sweetness from the sherry finish

Not bad but I wouldn't buy it again

This is a strange one, feels like it's just a slight tweak or two away from being excellent. Sipping it, there's initially some pleasant sweetness and flavour going on but then halfway through and into the finish I found it a little too alcoholy with very little discernible taste other than this abrupt alcohol kick. There's no shortage of cheaper Irish whiskeys that have this easily beat such as IrishAmerican, Blackbush or Roe & Co so I wouldn't go for it again.

This, to me, is more like a good speyside scotch than your run of the mill Irish whiskies and ai found it a delightful departure from the norm.

This whiskey was a delightful surprise and is now my price to quality favorite of all the Scotch and Irish whiskies ever tried. At a relatively modest 40 euro, this delivered well above expectations. It is smooth, deep in flavor with a somewhat sweet and very pleasant long- lasting finish. Notes of caramel, vanilla, bourbon, cherry, oak and a bit of salt to round it out. It is dangerously drinkable and I am going to get another bottle as soon as back in stock. Best bang for the buck in quality whiskey I have had after 25 years of appreciating fine whiskies.
