Glendalough Double Barrel Irish Whiskey is a single grain Irish whiskey, initially matured in American bourbon barrels before enjoying a finishing period of six months in Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks. This comes bottled at 42% ABV, brought down to this strength by Wicklow mountain water. A rather tasty release presented by Glendalough, rich in vanilla, caramel, Christmas spices and dried fruit notes.
A creamy, malty nose begins with rich vanilla, white chocolate and buttery fudge. Notes of cooking apples, white grapes, marzipan icing and toasted oak form in the backdrop.
Succulent caramel, salty melted butter and crème anglaise provide a thick, decadent sweetness with a fruity underlay from blackberries and marmalade.
Polished oak and a hint of wood spice linger.

As a single grain whiskey this pretty nice. Smooth, quite tasty but admittedly very sweet. If sweetness is not what you're looking for in a whiskey then I recommend skipping this one. However if sweetness is not a problem, you should definately try this.
Lately I have been on a quest to try every Irish whiskey I can so when we got this at our store for $30 I had to grab a bottle. Upon opening I immediately noticed it was extremely fumey and alcoholic smelling with no discernable nose so I let it sit in the glass for about 15 minutes to breathe and it was still very fumey. Upon tasting I was surprised by how harsh this was really sharp and prickly on the palate. There are some nice vanilla custard notes in there but the spirit itself is so rough all you taste is alcohol. This is almost reminiscent of a few american ryes I've had but as an Irish whiskey I would expect something smoother and tastier. I have to say I am not a fan of this one, kind of a let down. The Sugarbear
Not for me this one, flavours are decent but it's very sharp. Was looking forward to it after the reviews but was left disappointed if I'm being honest.
I like the strong/lasting aftertaste, yet same double casked Bushmills Black Bush wins by a margin. Subjectively for me.
gorgeous whiskey - custard-y, caramel-y... lovely
