Surprisingly good given the price it is sold at. I get a smooth, rich taste with a bit of fruit and vanilla. Would be even better if it was bottled at a slightly higher ABV and potentially creating an 18 year version. Overall score is very good.

Description

For the first time in its 190-year history, the world’s second best-selling Scotch whisky, Ballantine's, has released a series of single malts. The unprecedented move is designed to give whisky-loving folks like you and I the opportunity to sample and experience the three main malt whiskies that comprise the famous Ballantine’s blend.

In this case, we have the Glenburgie single malt, which the brand says is the whisky that forms the heart of a Ballantine’s blend. It was bottled at 15 years of age after maturation in American Oak casks.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

A luxurious nose kicks off with golden syrup, white grapes and cooking apples before malt and marzipan reveal along with sweet cereals. Stewed pear and a hint of brown sugar arrive after some time.

Palate

Caramel, white chocolate and vanilla emerge through fizzing ginger and white pepper. Mandarin, lychee and deep dark fruits develop to form an impressively fruity backdrop.

Finish

Relatively short, with flickers of spice.

Overall

A well composed, gentle and fabulously fruity dram.
