    Meikle Tòir The Chinquapin One

From the first series of whiskies by Meikle Tòir, a peated whisky brand made at GlenAllachie Distillery with the assistance of expert whisky maker Billy Walker, whose influence can certainly be seen here with this innovative cask profile. The single malt Scotch whisky, peated to 35ppm (using mainland St. Fergus peat, a sweeter variety than its coastal counterparts) and fermented for a lengthy 160 hours fermentation, was aged in American oak bourbon barrels followed by Chinquapin virgin oak casks, a bold barrel that imparts big, sweet, and rich flavours.

    Peaty surprise.

I was very intrigued to try this before the other 2 in the range. I was pleasantly surprised, not strong peat flavour but nice balance with aromas of banana and toffee on the nose. The taste is pretty good too, a sweet peat with a hint of leather and cinnamon stick. If you fancy something a bit different give this a try. Will be trying the others to compare. Finish is a bit short I feel on this one.
