Boasting heaps of rich sherried character in true GlenAllachie style, this exquisite eight year old single malt joined the distillery's core range in 2022. Under the expertise of master distiller Billy Walker, an innovative selection of the finest casks including Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry puncheons, virgin oak casks, and red wine barriques combine to create an impressively fruit-rich sipper.
Spiced fruit loaf with sweet cinnamon, a smidge of ginger, and juicy raisins. A touch of nutty malt balances floral honey.
Rich, dark muscovado sugar, more dried fruits with sultanas, and dates dusted with fragrant baking spice.
Maple syrup, roasted almonds, a touch of menthol rests beneath, with earthy coffee and cocoa.
Absolute favourite. Tasted it at the distillery after an aborted attempt to visit nearby Arbelour. Immediately bought 4 bottles and regretted not having more. Fantastic for an 8 yr old, punches above it's weight. I'm not going to give you words, just advice. Don't miss this.
Do not be put off by its youth. This 8 yr old defies its age. On the first wave of flavour of rich dried fruit to the deep dark south of slightly sweetened bourbon this is a drop of loveliness. Allow the flavours to evolve before passing judgement
It's a decent drop alright if you like your sherry cask scotch, but i feel that after experiencing the 12 (which doesnt cost much more), and the 15 this is a little lacking in maturity and a tad harsher. (as you would probably expect being younger). Don't get me wrong i'll finish the bottle, and IMHO it's better once it's had some oxygen after opening, but although im always happy to try a new expression, doubt i'll be buying it again
A rich and full sherried malt. Nicely spiced and plenty of fruit balanced by good wood. Smooth (but not too smooth) with 46% ABV. Lingering finish. I think I may actually prefer it to the 12 year. Excellent for the price.
This is a lovely dram with a VERY interesting flavour profile for an 8yo. On the nose I get candle wax and sultanas. On first sip I get that waxyness and reminisce about new books and libraries, and didn't initially get the sweetness. The development was slightly salty, like eating on the newspaper wrapping after a beautiful fish and chips. The sweetness comes through with subsequent nosing and tasting. The nose gets more bourbony with cherry and hard boiled sweets coming through with a hint of pepper in the finish. If you think you might like sucking on a parcel of jolly ranchers, wrapped in oily, salty newspaper all enclosed with a wax seal, then you will love this. I did.
