This 10-year-old single malt joins batch three of GlenAllachie's Virgin Oak Series, which explores the subtle differences imparted by maturation in various species of oak. After an initial maturation in American oak bourbon barrels, this expression spent approximately 18 months finishing in virgin Spanish oak casks before bottling.

Nose: nice sweet and spicy aroma, not strong but nice and fruity (maybe pears and oranges?) and maybe honey and ginger? Taste - slow building to spiciness (maybe cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger), but also some taste of coffee/mocha and chocolate; Finish - a little flashback but not bad, some flavor, again a coffee/mocha taste; Overall - I was not very happy with this one, but I hate coffee, so this might be a good one for someone that likes these flavors.
I'm usually a huge fan of GlenAllachie, however this one did not deliver what I hoped for. On the nose it is sweet and harsh. I drink it neat. It is warm and sweet on the first sip, however as it lingers on the tongue you find a harsher finish that you would not expect. The oak finish is light, however the strong taste of bourbon and pepper comes throughout mixed with ginger. The finish is one of spice rather than sweetness. Didn't taste the chocolate or coffee. Not one overall I would recommend
