Glen Spey 12 Year Old 2009 (batch 21/051) - Connoisseurs Choice (Gordon & MacPhail)
From the Glen Spey Distillery comes this glorious single malt, independently bottled up by Gordon & MacPhail for its Connoisseurs Choice range. Distilled in 2009, the whisky was initially matured in refill bourbon barrels, before being transferred for a three year finishing period in Côte-Rôtie wine casks. After a total of 12 years, the casks were cracked open to release a total of 3,500 bottles of this delightful Speysider.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Summer berries, crushed almonds, and nut oil mingle with fresh sawdust and biscuity malt.
Palate
Cooked apples and stewed fruits sit alongside some darker berry notes, honey oatmeal cookies studded with raisins and chocolate chips, a hint of vegetal oak, and bold, peppery barley.
Finish
Oak char brings some spice with a touch of cinnamon, anise, and clove, sweet nutty malt continues, balancing soft, soaked fruit.
