Glen Scotia
Scotland
Single Malt
Glen Scotia's Victoriana sees the Campbeltown distillery's single malt drawn from casks with a particularly heavy char profile, imparting plenty of rich, roasty-toasty notes. This, however, is the Victoriana Cask Strength expression. It's obvious what the difference here is - it's bottled at cask strength, a robust 54.2% ABV, which helps bolster those aforementioned roasty-toasty notes.
Elegantly oak-y, with notes of toasty sugar and citrus peels.
More fruit forward on the nose, with dark berry juiciness at its core.
Orchard fruits dusted with dark chocolate.
The best whisky is surely the one that YOU like, well, I've tried quite a lot in my life, I like Dalwhinnie but Victoriana has such a completely different and distinctive taste, to me it's an absolutely gorgeous whisky.
This is an exceptional dram, it just explodes in your mouth and tastes great, can’t recommend enough.
Absolutely wonderful flavour, hits the back of the throat but is very pleasurable, I like a variety of whiskies scotch, Irish, Japanese, Victoriana does stand out.
While I enjoy my drams at cask strength, I find this nearly undrinkable without watering down - and it requires more than a little to tame the bite. It’s been described below as a “delightful warmth”, I suppose if you enjoy having a lighter held to your throat. I also find the palette rather flat and uninteresting. It’s just too young. Sadly, this will be moved to the back of the shelf. Far better offerings out there for this price.
Great Cambletown whisky. Annoyingly tall bottle but apart from that just a really delicious whisky and gives Springbank 12 cask strength a run for it’s money. Though not quite.
