Glen Scotia
Scotland
Single Malt
Glen Scotia's Victoriana sees the Campbeltown distillery's single malt drawn from casks with a particularly heavy char profile, imparting plenty of rich, roasty-toasty notes. This, however, is the Victoriana Cask Strength expression. It's obvious what the difference here is - it's bottled at cask strength, a robust 54.2% ABV, which helps bolster those aforementioned roasty-toasty notes.
Elegantly oak-y, with notes of toasty sugar and citrus peels.
More fruit forward on the nose, with dark berry juiciness at its core.
Orchard fruits dusted with dark chocolate.
Loves the Campbelltown whisky, formerly Springbank, now Glen Scotia, this original cask strength style has plenty of structure and power, and is worth buying again.
If you want to think back to the Victorian era, the whisky capital of the world, Campbelltown, the original cask strength, full of thickness and long aftertaste whisky, try it CV
I first tasted this a few years ago at a whisky festival and have always wanted to have a bottle. I saw it in the MoM flash sale for just under £60 so this was the perfect opportunity. I was not disappointed at all. It is designed to be an old-fashioned style of whisky and it certainly very full-bodied and rich and at 54%, it certainly packs a punch. There's plenty of vanilla and oak-spice balanced with fruit and nut - altogether a very tasty Campbeltown dram and well worth investing in.
Great Whisky. Great Rich flavours as described which do linger in a good way, good on the nose, one I would buy again.
